The best thing about joining wine clubs is that you get wine every month. What? You thought I was going to say something funny or witty? Nope. Wine every month, dawg.
Acumen has quite a bit of land 'round them Napa parts but actually sends a lot of their grapes to other big dawgs. They focus a smaller portion for their own line and this just happens to be one of them. The shitty part of that is it makes the wine more expensive that it has to be. What I do like about Acumen is they don't hide the fact this is a blend even though it meets the requirements of a "Cabernet" - see above for the blend percentages.
In da nose I got a very nice toasted oak / char aroma that had the sweet aspect without smoking me out of my mind. As I swirled the glass and made dad sounds in my chair some lovely plumn notes hurled themselves at me like Thai lady-boys. In da mouf I got clear-as-day chocolate and tobacco. I was a bit surprised with the rich, earth notes but then the berries came in on the finish to wrap this up nicely.
I rather enjoyed this wine but damn them crazy ass Californians and that $60 price tag. I do think you should give it a try if you want to try something a bit different that doesn't fit the standard California fruit cab.
